Karachi violence claims 10 lives as alert declared in hospitals
Wednesday, March 6th, 2013 4:56:29 by Tahir KhanThere is no let up in violence in Karachi as at least 10 people were killed in firing incidents in different part of the city on Wednesday, police and hospital sources said.
The violence gripped the city at a time when the Chief Justice was hearing a suo moto on the Abbas Town bomb attack which killed nearly 50 people this week.
Businesses were forced to close shortly afterwards as violence suddenly kicked up in the afternoon. Shops were closed and business came to a standstill.
The Karachi Transport Ittehad also announced that they are suspending public transport plying the streets.
Hospitals were directed to remain on high alert.There were reports of some petrol pumps being shut down as well.
The situation was reported to be tense in Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Federal B Area. There were reports of aerial firing in many areas as well, spreading fear and panic.
In another report, a blaze in New Sabzi Mandi escalated. Fire brigades were called in from all areas of Karachi.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
