Per Mertesacker insists Arsenal to utilise the break – Football News

Arsenal defender, Per Mertesacker, insists his teammates to utilise the free time. They are not playing this gameweek and will now face off Bayern Munich in Germany on 13^th March.

The German International, Mertesacker wants Gunners to overcome their Derby loss and come out strong for their next match.

Arsenal suffered a shocking FA Cup exit against Blackburn and bearing 1-3 loss against the German giants in their first leg earlier this month. Despite outclassing Aston Villa in the Premier League, the Gunners were destroyed against their arch rivals Tottenham Hotspurs last week.

With poor defensive display of the Gunners, the Spurs went 2-0 up in the opening half. Gunners came out strong in the second half at the White Hart Lane. They managed to grab a goal back but failed to capitalise on their chances, eventually suffering a 1-2 loss.

“We are disappointed because we looked good for the first 35 minutes [against Tottenham],” the German was quoted in an interview to the Arsenal Player. “We were solid at the back, played high up but couldn’t manage both situations where they scored. It was strange. After we scored we couldn’t put them under the pressure that was maybe needed to score again. There were a few chances on either side, but it was very disappointing the way we played after we scored.”

Arsenal have a break of almost 10 days as they are not playing this weekend. The German wants his side to practice and re-ignite their spark in order to recover against Bayern Munich.

“After that it is strange to think about it, but we need this breather now. We have 10 days until the next game and we have to think about our situation.”

Arsenal are standing at fifth position with seven points behind their north London rivals at the Barclays English Premier League.
