Pakistan produces 8505 MW electricity

Minister of State for Water and Power Tasneem Ahmad Qureshi told the House during question hour that the power generation from Hydel sector is 2‚837 MW and thermal 5‚052 MW while Nuclear Power Generation capacity is 615 MW.
He said till 20th of the last month the total power demand was 11‚451 MW resulting in a shortfall of 2‚947 MW.
To a question‚ Advisor on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr. Asim Hussain said the duration of closure of CNG stations in Punjab is longer than other provinces due to more population and usage of the commodity.
He said due to meager gas demand there is no gas load management in Balochistan.
He said the Sindh and Peshawar High Courts have directed the federal government to adhere to the provisions of Article 158 of the Constitution therefore gas load management is mainly restricted to Punjab province and to some extent to Sindh province as per demand and supply position of gas.
Dr. Asim Hussain said the previous government gave a number of licenses to open the CNG stations which was not an appropriate policy.
He said, “we have called this policy wrong at every forum and it should be revoked”.
