Saturday, March 9th, 2013 3:27:21 by Ammad KhawajaMalaysia’s ace shuttler Lee Chong Wei cleared another hurdle in his way to glory in Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships and moved into semi-final round on March 8, 2013.
He was up against Tien Minh Nguyen of Vietnam and their meeting concluded in just 34 minutes. This Men’s Singles quarter-final was played in local badminton complex of Birmingham and it ended with final figures of 21-17 and 21-19.
World Number one Chong Wei laid the foundation of his victory by winning first set and then sealed a splendid straight-set win by clinching the second match point.
On the other hand, the Vietnamese campaigner looked completely confused in front of the badminton king and crashed out in a disgraceful manner.
In first set of the match, Chong Wei launched an intensive attack and pushed his lower ranked opponent on back foot. He capitalised this flow and bagged many valuable points in a row.
This initial lead helped him to pile up a decent margin before the interval. After the mid-game break, the Malaysian campaigner injected more intensity in his attack and swept the table with a favourable score position of 21-17.
The following game was also played in similar manner as Tien Minh showed some spark in the beginning but he put a below par performance in the final moments and surrendered tamely.
Meanwhile, Chong Wei capitalised his rival’s blunders and registered a tight yet decisive figure of 21-19.
With this win, he marched into semi-final round where Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand will be his challenger.
