David Warner believes Michael Clarke’s promotion in batting order will help

Australia’s opening batsman David Warner believes that skipper Michael Clarke can bring stability to the Test side by moving up the order.

The latter has been batting at number five during the Test series in India, but he has often run out of partners at the other end, which has been hurting the side pretty badly. As a result, the Kangaroos have lost a couple of consecutive games and face the
threat of a white wash in the four match series.

However, the team think tank might make a few changes in the side for the third Test in order to bounce back. One of those changes could be promoting Clarke at number four or three, so that he can face maximum overs and score as many runs as possible.

“I just think it will stabilise us a lot, instead of losing three wickets we might only lose one wicket and rotate the strike more,” Warner said. “I don’t think it is necessarily about having Michael at three; it is about us, the top four, to knuckling down
and scoring runs, that’s the main issue. If we can do our job right there is no reason to reshuffle the order.”

The Australian skipper started off his tour with a brilliant century and it seemed that his side would pressurise the hosts right from the start of the series. However, MS Dhoni and his men responded strongly and thrashed the young bowlers of the opposition.

On the other hand, the Indian spinners also proved devastating for the tourists and they simply dominated the under pressure Aussies. Ravichandran Ashwin in particular dictated terms in the first two matches and did not allow the batters to get away with
easy runs.

However, Warner defended his side by saying, “Four out of the 16 blokes who are here have played Test-match cricket here [before]. We’re doing pretty well to put up a fight at least. We’ve had the best of conditions in both the first innings, that’s no excuse.
But in the second innings with the ball turning, it has been tough for us because we aren’t used to the conditions.”
