Misbah-ul-Haq wants the media to behave responsibly
Monday, March 11th, 2013 2:48:32 by Yasir HashmiMisbah-ul-Haq, the Pakistan captain, has denied the reports of rift with Mohammad Hafeez and said that the media should behave maturely by avoiding unauthentic stories.
The Green Shirts failed to deliver the goods in the recently-concluded Test series against South Africa, being whitewashed in the three-match battle. There were reports before the One Day International (ODI) series that Misbah and Hafeez, who have been very good friends over the years, are having strained relations due to some differences about the team combination.
Pakistan lost the opening match of the ODI series at Bloemfontein but the skipper did not hesitate in slamming the media back home. The middle-order batsman feels that some reporters of the private television channels are extremely irresponsible and they play with the emotions of the people through fake stories.
Misbah revealed that he was having a cup of tea sitting with none other than Hafeez when some of the channels broke stories about their conflict.
“As I said, the people that are getting out these kind of stories, I think they should be ashamed of themselves. They hurt the emotions of the people of Pakistan, with this kind of baseless news. Secondly, they hurt Pakistani players and especially teams image. Nothing like that is happening – even when yesterday all these stories were coming forward, we were sitting together, having a cup of tea and laughing at these baseless news.”
The cricketer from Mianwali further added that the job of the journalists is to create awareness among the masses but they have no right to present self-made stories to get higher ratings.
“I think these (media) people should show responsibility, as you are giving people a (wrong) message and misleading them (with wrong information),” he added.
The second match of the series is going to be played on Friday at Centurion, with the home team leading the competition by one game to nil.
