Spanish giants, Real Madrid, made an epic comeback after trailing a goal to record a 2-1 victory in the second leg against the Barclays English Premier League leaders, Manchester United. The Spanish side managed to pull out a draw in the first leg at Bernabeau anf after recording this victory, they secured a place in the quarter-finals at the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
RealMadridmade a dismal start at the Old Trafford. Manchester United were playing defensively and only attacking on the counter attacks. Both teams failed to score a goal in the opening have. DespiteMadridgetting a higher possession, the Red Devils were clearly looking dangerous despite resting Wayne Rooney on the bench.
In the second half, United got the lead with Sergio Ramos’ own goal. However, in the 56th minute, Nani received a controversial red card which changed the tides of this match.
Jose Mourinho reflected about this clash in the post match press conference and clearly stated that the home side was better.
“We didn’t play well and didn’t deserve to win. But football is like this. I’m not talking about the decision as I’m not sure about it. But independent of that, the best team lost. I doubt 11 v 11 that we would win the match.”
Morinho substituted Luka Modric in after Nani was sent off. In the 66th minute he fired a spectacular goal and brought his side back in contention. Three minutes later, Christiano Ronaldo, showed his class and sealed the game with a 2-1 score line.
RealMadrid’s tactician, Mourinho praise the former Tottenham star:,
“I had the feeling Modric could change the match. He brought qualities into the game that we didn’t have before.”
