Heycnkes: Arsenal can still cause problems for Bayern
Wednesday, March 13th, 2013 12:55:16 by Rizwan KazmiThe Bavarian giants’ head coach claims his side needs to maintain top form as their rivals have the potential to change the course of the clash at the Allianz Arena
Bayern Munich trainer Jupp Heynckes feels that Arsenal FC tie is still alive in the UEFA Champions league as he admires Arsene Wenger a lot and believes they will do their best to get the grip on the match. The league leaders won the opening clash 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium with strikes from Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller and Mario Mandzukic.
“We played excellent in the first leg. I know by experience you have to give 100 per cent all the time in this competition,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
“This is the Champions League, and Arsenal are not just any club. I know and respect [Arsene] Wenger. And I know Arsenal will try everything,” he added.
“Arsenal lost 4-0 to Milan in the first leg and won the return leg 3-0. Based on chances it should have ended 4-0,” he mused.
“Right after the game on Saturday, I knew he most likely would not play. He stretched ligaments,” he stated.
“It is not a major injury. He should return to training on Thursday and we will take from there. We will not risk anything,” he continued.
“With Luiz Gustavo, Javi Martinez and Toni Kroos we have three very different players that match well,” he finally concluded.
Heynckes claimed that Arsenal showed against AC Milan that they can come back from any deficit last season. He stated that Der FCB played superbly in the first leg. He further added that Arsenal are a top team, therefore they will try to upset the Bavarian outfit. Bayern will miss French international Franck Ribery who got injured against Fortuna Dusseldorf.
