Prime Minister assures fair polls in last cabinet meeting
Wednesday, March 13th, 2013 3:56:44 by Tahir KhanPrime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf Wednesday promised free and fair election in his last address to the federal cabinet. He also said that transparent polls are pre-requisite for democracy‚ integrity and development.
He said only the elected representatives can set direction for the country that is economically sustainable‚ socially and politically acceptable.
The Prime Minister said the government has taken the opposition into confidence regarding the appointment of caretaker prime minister.
He said the democratic government is constantly fighting war on terror and the terrorists would not be allowed to impose their agenda on the nation.
He said the democratic government has the full support of all segments of the society in this war but still we have to do a lot to eliminate this menace from the society.
The Prime Minister thanked the provincial governments‚ Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies for their cooperation with the government for the last 5 years in war against terrorism.
Pervez Ashraf said attack on the Christian community in Lahore was an unfortunate incident. The federal and provincial governments together will make for losses of the members of the Christian community in Lahore.
The Prime Minister assured that those responsible for this inhuman act will get exemplary punishment.
He urged the Ulema to help the Government in promoting religious harmony and elimination of intolerance.
The Prime Minister said the government is working on multiple fronts to achieve energy security for the country.
He said the government has formally kicked off the long awaited 7.5 billion dollars Pakistan – Iran Gas Pipeline Project aimed at addressing the energy crisis in Pakistan.
