Gunners displayed tremendous skills to overpower last year’s runner-up Bayern Munich. However, they failed to progress into the quarter-finals due having less away goals at the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
Arsene Wenger’s side went berserk at the Allianz Arena in the start of the match. Olivier Giroud spectacularly netted the ball in after just three minutes from the start of the match. This goal boosted Arsenal’s confidence and let them play better. The match went to half time and despite’s the German giants getting more chances, they failed to capitalise.
In the second half, Arsenal maintained their intensity. However they failed to break Bayern’s defences until the 86th minute when Koscielny brilliantly netted the ball in. They managed to find chances after that but failed to convert.
In the end, Arsenal failed to progress into the last eight after suffering 1-3 defeat at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg.
The Arsenal tactician, Wenger, was quoted in an interview to the Arsenal Player:
“We went close and I am very proud of the team. As well I am very disappointed for anyone who follows Arsenal that we could not get that third goal. There was room to score. When you look at the game tonight you have many regrets from the first game. Qualifying is 180 minutes and in the first 90 we were not at our best. I believe that it was very feasible to knock out Bayern. We got that feeling when we watched the first game again. We had a plan that we respected tonight, it went for us on some occasions but at least we have shown that we have the quality to be there.”
Arsenal will next face Swansea City in the Barclays English Premier League.
