2013 Swiss Open: Wei Feng topples Parupalli Kashyap in pre quarter-final round

Malaysia’s young but talented shuttler Wei Feng Chong alarmed all the contestants of Swiss Open by overpowering Parupalli Kashyap in pre quarter-final round on March 14, 2013.

This Men’s Singles encounter was staged at the local badminton arena of Basil and it proved a real test for both contenders.

This crucial match prolonged to 55 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 18-21, 21-7 and 21-16.

Though, the Indian campaigner raised his chances of success by winning the first set but then the opposing shuttler played impeccable badminton and turned his plan into dust.

The Malaysian player showed a transformed character in the ending two games and secured a quarter-final berth.

Initially, Wei Feng took some time to read his rival’s game and lost the opening game with 18-21 score on the board.

However, he managed to end his bad patch in very next game. The second set started with couple of gruelling rallies as both shuttlers made every effort to gain an early advantage.

In first half of the set, Kashyap was in strong position to transform his 1-0 lead into a straight-set victory but then few back-to-back mistakes hit him hard.

Wei Feng capitalised his competitor’s blunders and counterbalanced the situation. He finished first half of the set with a respectable score position and then swept the table with an overwhelming total of 21-7.

The decider remained interesting until the first half as the latter part of game was completely dominated by the Malaysian shuttler.

Wei Feng played cautiously in the beginning but then some productive rallies boosted his confidence. He did not squander this opportunity and widened the gap in third quarter of the set.

Finally, his hard work paid off and registered a winning score of 21-16. With this victory, he marched into quarter-finals of 2013 Swiss Open.
