Panel satisfied at parliament performance
Friday, March 15th, 2013 5:24:36 by Tahir KhanThe Free and Fair Election Network Friday expressed its satisfaction on the 5 years’ parliamentary performance of Pakistan Peoples Party in terms of legislation and setting up healthy democratic trends.
FAFEN in its report about the progress of outgoing government during its 5-year tenure said that National Assembly passed 134 bills as against previous government which passed only 51 bills. Eighteen bills were made part of the constitution that came from private members.
Launching the report in Islamabad on Friday‚ a FAFEN representative said it is a good omen that this assembly also considered private members significant for legislation.
According to report the 13th National Assembly stands out for pro-women legislation‚ passing treasury and private members’ bills against domestic violence‚ harassment at work and public places‚ anti-women practices and elevating the status of the commission on women.
Regarding participation of members in legislation‚ the report says that 23 members showed passive attitude towards legislation‚ which include 8 from PML-Q‚ 8 from PPP‚ 2 from PML-N‚ 2 from ANP and one each from NPP and PML-F.
The report was issued just a day before the dissolution of the assemblies on completion of five-year term.
A caretaker government will be installed to hold parliamentary elections within two months.
