The New York Mets talented starting pitcher Johan Santana has recently spoken to large group of media personals and explained them about the latest development regarding his and general manager Sandy Alderson’s professional relationship.
“Yeah, we talked,” Santana said of himself and Alderson. “Everything was fine. We had meetings and stuff, and we were on the same page. As long as we’re on the same page, I’m fine. I’m not going to get into details about what we talked (about).”
He added, “I’m not going to get into you said, I said, all that, At that point there was nothing for me to talk about. I told you guys, I feel good. I’m making progress. . . . I’m not going to get into comments that somebody else was making.”
Earlier, the 12-year Major League veteran was slightly offended by his team’s GM and his harsh comments that he is not in “pitching shape”. However, now it seems that both Mets’ individuals have talked and resolved their differences.
“To make sure . . . that he understood from our standpoint, he would be ready when he is ready and there wouldn’t be any further comment about it in terms of a precise date that he’d be ready to pitch,” Alderson said. “So if that was clearing air, it was clearing air, I guess.”
Mets GM added, “He’s the only one who can determine whether he is ready to pitch, if that means he’s on his own schedule, he’s the only one who can decide when he is going to be ready, From that standpoint we are doing everything we can to get him ready. He’s doing everything he can to be ready.”
Earlier in the offseason, few speculations did come out in the media about Mets four-time All Star that he is not feeling good and his potential late start in the next season is expected.
“I was fine the whole time,” Santana said of the offseason. “We were on the same page. We talked to trainers. We talked to everybody. We’re on the same page. . . . Now, coming back from not throwing, or facing hitters or competing since August is not easy to do. I didn’t know what to expect, so you’ve got to go out and do it and see how it feels.”
Last year Santana did a good job on the mound as he achieved consistent numbers of 4.85 ERA along with 6-9 win loss, 111 strikeouts and 1.33 WHIP. Overall Santana carries a good career ERA of 3.20 along with 139-78 win-loss 1988 strikeouts and 1.13 WHIP.
