It will take time to put right culture in team, says Michael Hussey
Saturday, March 16th, 2013 1:32:32 by Rana Nasir GhafoorRecently-retired Australian batsman, Michael Hussey has warned coach Mickey Arthur that it will take some time to put the right team culture in place.
Four Aussie players were suspended lately, as they did not comply with the team orders. The coach asked the players to make a special presentation about the team’s awful defeat in the opening two matches against India.
But Usman Khawaja, Shane Watson, Mitchell Johnson and James Pattinson didn’t comply with the order. The team management take serious action, and dropped all these four players from the squad for the third game.
It was a huge setback for the visiting side, as the Kangaroos are already going through tough times. Taking the about the recent incident, Hussey described that the right culture cannot be put in place overnight, so the coach and team management should be
patient.
"The thing about that team is it didn’t really change much for probably a 10-year period, so they got to know each other extremely well, like brothers," Hussey was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
"The environment now will get back to that I’m sure, but it just takes time. There’s been so much change and upheaval in Australian cricket over the last year or so, changing of coaches and selectors, players have come out of the team and new players have
come in," he said.
"So you’ve got to expect it will take time for trust to build up, friendships to build, the hard times, the good times together, it all builds the culture over a period of time," he explained.
The team is really missing the senior players like Hussey and Ricky Ponting. Hussey’s retirement was in particular a huge surprise. Arthur had already stated that the left-handed batsman was a part of Australia’s plans for the year.
After suffering a couple of embarrassing losses, the Australian side has shown some improvement in the third Test, putting up a decent total on the board in the first innings. The third game is likely to end in draw, but t will be interesting to see how
the side performs in the next encounter.
