Houston Astros starting pitcher Lucas Harrell is excited about his potential start on Saturday against the Washington Nationals in 2013 Major League Baseball Spring Trainings.
“Tomorrow I’ll be able to get back after it and get my first game in 10 days,” he said. “I’m excited about that. It’s great because my leg feels great and my body feels great.
“We were just cautious. It wasn’t anything that we thought there was something serious. It’s just something that was small and we wanted to make sure that I was right before we broke camp.”
Earlier speculation were on the rise that his right groin injury might delay his this year’s start in Spring Training and even in the regular season.
When you push off with your throwing leg, especially being on my right leg, that’s your power leg,” he said. “You got to be able to use all your strength. Mine wasn’t really hurting when I was pushing off. It was more like when I turned. I think that’s what happened when I was running to first and I tweaked it.
He added, “It was when I rotated. Now I’ve been doing stop-and-go, (pitcher’s fielding practice) and all that stuff. I don’t feel it anymore. It’s really important to pitching. People don’t know. They might see that and think that it’s not something serious. It could be a little more serious than you could think.”
Later Astros manager Bo Porter also said for his star player who impressed with his brilliant pitching last season.
“He’s kind of set back a little bit,” manager Bo Porter said. “We’re going to just basically take it inning by inning and see what his pitch count is and then make a decision as the game presents itself. He’s had some good side sessions, but at the same time he missed a turn, but we will lean on the side of being careful.”
Not only Astros manager, but experts within the Major League also believe that Lucas Harrell will play a vital role for the Astros this coming season.
