Saina Nehwal paves her path to semi-final round of 2013 Swiss Open
Saturday, March 16th, 2013 2:10:22 by Ammad KhawajaWomen’s Singles shuttler Saina Nehwal gained access to the semi-final round of Swiss Open when she thrashed Tai Tzu Ying in a short-lived tussle on Friday, March 15, 2013.
This quarter-final match lasted for just 29 minutes in local badminton complex of Basil and the Indian campaigner locked the honour with an impressive result of 21-11 and 21-12.
With this splendid straight-set victory, Saina setup her next encounter with Wang Shixian of China. She is in high spirit after registering some consecutive victories in the preliminary round.
In her match against Tzu Ying, she laid foundation of her dominance immediately in the first set. She did not give her rival even a single chance to rise and kept her grounded from very stroke till the last one.
At first, she mounted the pressure by piling up a significant total and then capitalised this psychological edge to finish first half of the set with a favourable score position.
After the mid-game break, Saina injected more intensity in her attack and confined the opposing shuttler in the rear court. The first set ended with Saina putting an overwhelming score of 21-11.
The second set started with couple of gruelling rallies as both contenders tried hard to trounce the opponent but then the Indian lady ruled the court and raised her chances of success.
She finished first half of the set with a mountainous figure of 11 and then doubled her total by prevailing in few consecutive rallies.
Though, the Taipei shuttler showed some spark in third quarter of the set but her fluctuated performance provided Saina a golden opportunity to wrap this showdown in two games.
The Indian badminton queen did not squander this opportunity and swept the table with 21-12 score.
