Robinson Cano prepares for Yankees leadership role

New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is currently busy playing 2013 World Baseball Classic for his country Dominican Republic but even with the Latin American team, he is working very hard to see himself as Yankees new leader.

“Cano has grown up so much,’’ said Dominican Republic manager and Yankees bench coach Tony Pena. “Not only has he grown as a player, but he has grown as a person. He feels like he needs to step forward and he has done that.”

He added, “Tonight he said to our hitters, ‘Guys, we’re swinging at a lot of pitches out of the strike zone. Let’s concentrate a little more; he will give us a pitch to hit.’ That means a lot and it worked tonight. Little things like this will make him a good leader.”

Later Jose Reyes of Toronto Blue Jays and Cano’s Dominican Republic teammate said for Yankees second baseman, “I feel blessed to get to play in a combination with Robinson Cano, He’s a superstar, great player. He makes me better. He makes everybody around him better.”

Some believe that Cano is learning very fast and soon people will see him Yankees’ skipper. His performance has been very steady with the team since his arrival in the league.

In just eight years of Major League experience, he has already won many prestigious awards in including four-time All Star selection and four Silver Slugger awards along with a World Series title in 2010.

Last year, his brilliant performance guided the Yankees into the post season. He hit certainly hard and achieved consistent numbers of .313 hitting average along with 33 home runs, 94 RBIs and .379 OBP.

Not only in 2012, but Cano’s career stats are also very impressive and consistent at .308 hitting average along with 177 total home runs, 715 RBIs and .351 OBP.
