Omer Aftab, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pink Ribbon Campaign Pakistan (PRCP) will attend Reach To Recovery International’s 17th International Conference on Breast Cancer supported by Union For International Cancer Control (UICC) at Cape
Town , South Africa during March 20-22. The renowned social and human rights activist has been invited as a key-note speaker to share his experiences and interventions regarding breast cancer awareness in Pakistan.
The three-day grand conference will take place in International Convention Center. South Africa is hosting this prestigious event for the first time.
The health experts, human rights figures, breast cancer surgeons, social and medical scientists and representatives of different non-governmental organizations from all over the world will attend the conference.
During a few days ahead of the event, some training workshops will be held to equip the conference participants with the latest skills and knowledge on breast cancer. These sessions will also help the guests to have an interaction with one another.
With the theme ‘Together We Reach’, the conference will focus on updating the knowledge of breast cancer, developing a better understanding on the needs of low-resourced areas, improving service delivery and support for patients, survivors ad families, creating
sustainable solutions for different cultures, and sensitizing people to raise awareness about the disease.
Omer, as the head of PRCP, will share detailed information on the breast cancer situation in Pakistan and how his organization, in partnership with different government departments like Pakistan Science Foundation and Higher Education Commission (HEC) is
working to break the cultural taboos linked with the disease and encourage women across the nation to avail diagnostic and treatment facilities.
The PRCP has been effectively utilizing its professional capabilities and resources since 2003 to raise awareness of breast cancer and engage public sector health facilities to help victims gain easy and quick access to hospital and other treatment facilities.
Recently, the campaign inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pakistan Science Foundation to expedite an empirical study on the causes of breast cancer.
