Mansoor Amjad vows to make a comeback to international cricket
Thursday, March 21st, 2013 2:55:51 by Yasir HashmiMansoor Amjad, the 25-year-old cricketer from Sialkot, has expressed that he is still hungry to play for Pakistan once again and is not satisfied with the sole opportunity he received to represent his country at the highest stage of the game in 2008.
During the Asia Cup 2008, played in Karachi, the right-arm leg-spinner made his international debut. Amjad picked up a wicket after giving away 44 runs in his 8 overs and failed to make an impression with the bat.
The all-rounder has been sidelined from international cricket since that match, despite the fact that he has been doing reasonably well at the domestic level, especially with the bat.
Mansoor came through the ranks of junior cricket in the country, having represented Pakistan at the Under-15 as well as Under-19 level. The all-rounder was tipped to be the future of the national team in his early days. He also played a vital role in helping the Green Shirts lift the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2004 in Bangladesh.
The cricketer from Sialkot expressed that a number of his Under-19 teammates dreamt about representing the senior team but very few of them have achieved the feat so far.
The all-rounder said, “Being part of the successful 2004 Under 19 squad in Bangladesh was a fantastic time and yes it would be fair to say that a lot of that group of boys had very high hopes for their individual careers, whilst realising that a lot of hard work lay ahead in order for us to be successful.”
Mansoor is disappointed that he did not get a proper opportunity to showcase his skills in international cricket but vows to make a comeback very soon.
“Looking back now my international chance came and went in the blink of an eye, but make no mistake I’m determined to play for Pakistan again as I feel there is some unfinished business as far as international cricket is concerned,” he added.
