Zorc: Dortmund wants Lewandowski to stay put
Thursday, March 21st, 2013 5:21:07 by Rizwan KazmiThe Black Yellows’ sporting director believes that the Poland international does not have a reason to seek a move away from the reigning Bundesliga champions this term after being linked with a host of top European clubs
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has insisted that the German outfit is desperate to keep star striker Robert Lewandowski after the end of the current campaign. The Polish forward has been continuously being linked with Bayern Munich and English Premier League leaders’ Manchester United in the past few months.
However, the former player do not want to lose the striker with such huge potential. He claimed that the attacker is one of the best strikers in the continent.
“He has developed into a world-class player with us in the last three years,” the former Germany international was quoted as saying in an interview.
“Lewandowski is among the best three strikers in Europe. We don’t depend on a transfer fee this term,” the 1981 UEFA Under-19 Championship winner said.
“Why shouldn’t he stay another season?” the former TuS Eving Lindenhorst and Borussia Dortmund youth academy player added.
“I’d love to keep Mario at BVB until he’s 35,” the former West Germany Olympic team member continued.
“We’re planning the next years with him. It’s our desire that he’ll stay for a long time and he knows that,” the 1997 UEFA Champions League winner with Borussia Dortmund mused.
“Mario feels very comfortable at BVB. He and his agent will deal with his future responsibly, I’m sure of that,” the 1997 UEFA Super Cup runner-up finally concluded.
Zorc stated that Lewandowski is a world class player and the Signal Iduna Park outfit cannot afford to see him depart for another club. He further added that the BVB are not ready to cash in on him as his contract run out next season.
