Misbah-ul-Haq happy after winning the fourth ODI
Friday, March 22nd, 2013 11:43:09 by Yasir HashmiJubilant with his team’s performance in the fourth One Day International (ODI) of the five-match series against South Africa at Durban, Misbah-ul-Haq, the Pakistan captain, has said that the whole side worked hard to achieve this result.
The home team won the toss and elected to bat first; however, it did not turn out to be the right decision as Hashim Amla and Colin Ingram were dismissed off the first two deliveries of the match by Mohammad Irfan.
AB de Villiers and company, however, consolidated the innings and posted a competitive total of 234 runs on the board for the loss of nine wickets, thanks to brilliant half centuries by the skipper and David Miller. Irfan, Junaid Khan and Saeed Ajmal picked up three wickets each for the Green Shirts.
In reply, the visitors chased down the total in the second last over the match for the loss of seven wickets, with Misbah and Imran Farhat scoring valiant half centuries to help their team’s cause.
Apart from praising the patient knock by Farhat, the captain expressed during the post-match presentation ceremony that his fast bowlers set the tone for the victory earlier in the day.
“Everybody put their 100% in, it was a team effort. Farhat batted really well. We need one batsman to stay till the end, he showed that responsibility. That start was something we need and are capable of, especially getting Amla, you dream of that start wherever we get a little bit of turn and bounce,” Misbah said.
The cricketer from Mianwali is also delighted with the little cameo by Shoaib Malik, who scored an unbeaten 19 off as many balls to finish the match.
The Pakistan captain added, “It was not easy the way they bowled, we were under a lot of pressure. The plan was to keep on batting till 50 overs, and the runs would come. There was a little bit of pressure in the end, but you have got to believe you can win; and Malik ended the game really well.”
