Monday, March 25th, 2013 3:26:46 by Tahir KhanA day after former President Pervez Musharraf returned home, senior Baloch nationalist leader, Sardar Akhtar Mengal Monday returned to Pakistan from Dubai.
Mengal, former chief minister and president of the Balochistan National Party (BNP), ended exile ahead of the May 11 elections.
A large number of supporters were gathered outside Karachi airport to receive the nationalist leader after his return from Dubai.
He told reporters at Karachi airport that he will preside over a meeting of the central committee of the BNP to review the prevailing political situation in the context of participating in the general elections.
Mengal will also hold talks with Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif in Lahore to discuss the Balochistan situation. Nawaz is anxious to enter into an electoral alliance with the Baloch nationalist parties.
Mengal said that he had held talks with Nawaz earlier but there were no specific discussions over the upcoming elections.
He said that he did not return on the request of the caretaker setup. “I had made this decision a month back… I have come here for the people of Balochistan.”
He that the situation in Balochistan had not improved and that the Hazaras were being oppressed in the same manner as the oppression faced by the Baloch.
He added said the killers of Hazaras can be traced back to the killers of the Baloch people.
Mengal had been living in self-exile in Dubai and came to Islamabad last year to appear before the Supreme Court to give his opinion on the prevailing conditions in Balochistan.
Few months ago, he wrote an open letter to the chief justice requesting him to play a role in conflict resolution between the Pakistani establishment and the Baloch nationalists seeking their inalienable national rights.
