Nasir Jamshed should not have been dropped – Waqar Younis
Tuesday, March 26th, 2013 11:10:34 by Yasir HashmiWaqar Younis, the former Pakistan captain, has said that the team management should not have dropped Nasir Jamshed after a couple of failures during the One Day International (ODI) series against South Africa.
Since his return to international cricket last year, the stylish left-hander has been a prolific run-getter in the limited-overs formats for Pakistan.
The opener did a commendable job in the Asia Cup 2012 in Bangladesh, limited-overs series against Australia in the UAE and the ICC World T20 2012 in Sri Lanka. The cricket fans saw his prime during the tour of India earlier this year, with the left-hander scoring two back to back hundreds in the ODIs to be named as the Player of the Series.
As a result, Nasir was handed over the Test cap during the recently-concluded tour of South Africa but the opener, just like the rest of the batting line-up, struggled to cope with Dale Steyn and company. Having scored just 45 runs in the first three ODIs on the tour, the team management decided to drop Jamshed from the playing-11, much to the surprise of the cricket pundits.
“Nasir Jamshed should not have been dropped. He should have played instead of Younis Khan,” the legendary fast bowler said.
The former Pakistan coach believes that the selectors must give opportunities to the younger players to prove their mettle in the shorter formats. Younis backs Umar Akmal, Asad Shafiq and Umar Amin to deliver the goods in international cricket.
Waqar expressed , “That dropped catch cost Pakistan badly. Pakistan is an old team. I doubt their ages, though. Limited overs cricket is for youngsters. Shahid Afridi hits the ball once in the blue moon these days. Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal and Umar Amin should be selected for the Champions Trophy.”
The former fast bowler is not supporting the proposed idea of appointing Mohammad Hafeez as the captain of ODI team.
“I’m not in favour of appointing Hafeez as captain. His place isn’t even fixed let alone handing him the captain’s armband,” the former captain added.

It is very evident that Waqar has personal issues against Afridi back from the days when Waqar was so up in the Butt (Ijas). His comments are cheap and truly hold no value to the listener or the reader. So do us ‘readers’ a favor don’t publish any of Waqar’s comments; it just a waste of time!!!!
