The Nangarhar police said that a group of eight suicide bombers carried out an attack on the building of the Rapid Reaction Police Unit early morning, saying that three of them managed to blow themselves up and the other five were killed as a result of the gun fight with the police.
The police said that five Afghan police had been killed and four others wound in this incident.
Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack and said that the bomber killed 40 Afghan policemen and 15 foreign trainers.
He said the Taliban bombers struck a police academy at 5 a.m., where nearly 300 security men were being trained by the foreign troops.
Giving details of the attack, he said that one Naqeebullah first rammed his explosive-packed vehicle into the facility and then the attackers launched operation.
The attack comes hours after the US Secretary of State John Kerry concluded his visit to Afghanistan during which the American authorities handed Bagram detention center to the Afghan authorities.
Meanwhile, ISAF has claimed that an Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader and detained one other insurgent during an operation in Shah Wali Kot district, Kandahar province, on Tuesday.
The leader is accused of ordering assassinations against government officials, coordinating the movement of weapons and supplies used in insurgent operations, and leading attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
