Sammer: Bayern still have room for improvement
Friday, March 29th, 2013 4:27:44 by Rizwan KazmiThe former Germany international believes that the Bavarian giants have not been exceptional yet and wants them to be more competitive as Jupp Heynckes will keep on rotating the team
Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer claims the league leaders are two or three percent short of their full potential and asked Der FCB’s leaders to take control of the side during the coming fixtures. Die Roten have been in great run of form in the Bundesliga and can claim the league if Borussia Dortmund do not win against Stuttgart and they defeat Hamburg over the weekend.
“It’s impossible to play at a very high level for an entire season, but we have been missing two or three per cent ever since the DFB-Pokal win over Borussia Dortmund,” Sammer was quoted as saying in an interview.
“We have to improve three things. The leaders in the team have to step up again and lead their team-mates the way. Plus we have to act disciplined and well organised again off the ball. And we have to play at a higher pace and be more creative in possession,” the 1997 UEFA Champions League winner with Borussia Dortmund added.
“Nobody can be talking about fatigue at this point. Everybody should be in top shape because of Jupp Heynckes’ rotation system,” the former midfielder mused.
“The big lead in the Bundesliga table will not help us in the other competitions. We have to get everything that could distract us out of our systems,” the former Germany international finally concluded.
On the other hand, Bayern are also in the hunt for the UEFA Champions League and the German cup. Nevertheless, Sammer claimed that the Allianz Arena outfit are not displaying their early season form in recent games, and has asked them to improve if they want to go for a treble.
