Sunday, March 31st, 2013 12:46:57 by Tahir KhanA blast near a political gathering Sunday killed at least two people and injured six others, including a political leader, police said.
The remote-controlled blast occurred when people gathered for an election public meeting of the ‘Awami National Party’ (ANP) in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Police said that the bomb targeted the vehicle of political leader, Adnan Wazir, who was arriving at the venue in a convoy of vehicles.
Sources said that Wazir, a former member of the provincial assembly, was also injured in the attack. Wazir is a candidate for the provincial assembly seat. He is now contesting election as independent candidate.
The injured were shifted to a local hospital.
No group claimed responsibility.
Taliban had earlier asked the people to stay away from the election meetings of the ANP as the party supports the security forces against the militants.
The Interior Ministry in a report has said that Taliban and two other banned extremist groups can attack election rallies.
Parliamentary elections will be held on May 11 and political activities are gaining momentum amidst security concerns about the Taliban attacks.
