Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, believes that his side could have scored even more goals against Reading which are currently standing at the bottom of the table.
The Gunners have scored a total of 16 goals in a season against reading, making it a club record against a team.
Gunners unleashed their wrath against Reading last weekend just like they did on their previous encounter. Gervinho played his best and led the Gunners up in the 11th minute after tapping in from close range with a pass from Santo Cazorla. The scores stayed the same during the end of the first half.
Arsenal lifted their game in the second half. Santi Cazorla was the one who netted the ball with Gervinho returning the favour. It was not long when Olivier Giroud led his side to an unassailable lead of 3-0. Gervinho set up this goal as well.
However, two minutes late Reading snatched a goal back when Robson-Kanu headed the goal from a corner. In the 77th minute, Gunners were awarded penalty after Mariappa brought down Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Mikel Arteta took the penalty and eventually sealed the victory for Arsenal with a 4-1 score line.
The Frenchman, Wenger, is delighted by his side’s performance but admits that they could’ve scored even more goals.
“We had a good performance,” he reflected in an interview to the Arsenal Player. “We were technically sound and had a good balance between mastering the possession and being incisive. The only regret we had at half-time is that we didn’t score the chances we created and that we didn’t get the penalty we deserved, but we scored the second goal straight after coming out for the second half and then it was quite comfortable. I’m very happy because it keeps our momentum going. The confidence looks to be there, and you could see when the confidence is there, we can play quality football.”
Arsenal will next take on West Bromwich Albion and are fighting for a spot in the top four.
