Bomb attack kills 4 Rangers in Karachi
Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013 9:29:06 by Tahir KhanA bomb attack on security forces in Karachi killed at least four paramilitary soldiers late Wednesday, officials said.
Miscreants lobbed a bomb at the truck of the paramilitary Rangers in the Korangi area of Karachi.
Two soldiers died at the scene and two died of wounds in the city’s major hospital, doctors said. Three more injured soldiers are being treated in the hospital.
Some sources said that the bomb was planted on the road and was exploded with the help of remote control device when the truck of the security forces was passing near the Rangers Headquarters in the area.
The headquarters is situated near a residential area and the blast caused panic among the people.
A police officer said that a grenade was hurled at a Rangers van parked outside the Rangers office.
Witnesses said they had heard firing after the blast.
Officials said that the attack is reaction to the on-going operation against the militants and criminal gangs in Karachi.
Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. The Taliban spokesman, Ehsanullah Ehsan, said that the attack was part of their policy to target the security forces.
Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso condemned the attack.
In a statement, the Prime Minister said that such acts of terror cannot weaken the law-enforcement agencies’ resolve to wipe out terrorism from the society and not to surrender to those who are challenging the writ of the state.
He prayed to Almighty Allah for martyred in the blast and grant of courage to their families to bear the loss with fortitude.
He also prayed for the early recovery of the injured and directed the concerned authorities to provide best medical facilities to them.
