Taufik Hidayat waylays Scott Evans in second round of 2013 Australian Badminton Open
Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013 2:51:22 by Ammad KhawajaIndonesia’s seasoned shuttler Taufik Hidayat played impeccable badminton and gained access to the pre quarter-final round of Yonex Australian Badminton Open on April 3, 2013.
He locked horns with Scott Evans in local badminton arena of Sydney and their encounter lasted for 27 minutes before ending with final result of 21-9 and 21-13.
The Indonesian player raised his chances of success immediately in the first set and capitalised this initial lead in the following game.
Meanwhile, Scott Evans looked completely out of touch as he could not pocket even a single match point and faced a woeful straight-set defeat.
In first set of the match, he failed to read his rival’s strategy and remained at the lower end in most part of the game.
On the other hand, Taufik claimed many points in the establishing rallies and laid foundation of his dominance. He unleashed a series of productive strokes and pushed his rival on the back foot.
This flow helped him to finish first half of the set with an impressive figure of 11. The latter part of game was also dominated by the Indonesian campaigner as he swept the table with 21-9 score.
In second set of the match, Taufik lost focus for a short span of time and it allowed the opposing shuttler to enjoy a decent lead.
However, Scott Evans’ supremacy was really short lived as Taufik stormed back with a strong reply and reclaimed his status.
At first, he piled up an unassailable figure of 11 and then magnified the impact by ruling the court in third quarter of the set.
The final stage of this crucial set saw him at the top of his game as he maintained a significant difference and won this match with 21-13 total.
Now he is scheduled to meet Xue Song in the pre quarter-final round of Yonex Australian Badminton Open.
