Venkatesh Prasad optimistic about RCB’s chances in IPL 6
Tuesday, April 9th, 2013 12:20:37 by Yasir HashmiDespite losing their group fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, Venkatesh Prasad, the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) bowling coach, is optimistic about his team’s chances in the event and revealed that AB de Villiers is now available for the franchise.
The South African One Day International captain was not able to take part in the initial couple of games of the sixth season of the IPL because of a domestic T20 tournament back home. The wicketkeeper/batsman is surely going to bolster the RCB batting line-up, having played a number of match-winning knocks in the previous season.
The Royal Challengers have a number of star players in their ranks like Chris Gayle, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Muttiah Muralitharan, Virat Kohli, Daniel Vettori and others. A number of emerging young players do not get an opportunity to showcase their skills in the presence of these experienced cricketers.
The bowling coach, however, expressed that the franchise intends to rotate players in the group matches. Prasad has not lost hopes after the defeat against the Sunrisers and hopes for an improved performance in future.
“We have lot of options. Probably, you can see more players being rotated for getting as much experience as possible. We won’t experiment here but we would like to rotate the players. You will see lot of players getting chance to play in all the league matches,” said the RCB bowling coach. “It’s early days in the tournament and am sure all the three departments – batting, bowling and fielding will come good as we play more matches in the coming weeks.”
RCB will play their third match today against the same opposition. The bowling coach said that the team management will wait till the last moment to finalise the final playing 11.
The former medium-fast bowler added, “AB will be available to play Tuesday. Though all the boys are fit to play and we have plenty of options, the composition of the team will be decided a couple of hours before the match.”
