Ajay Jayaram casts out Winson Neo in opening round of 2013 New Zealand Badminton Open

India’s young but talented shuttler Ajay Jayaram registered his presence in SKYCITY New Zealand Badminton Open by sealing a straight-set victory in first round of the event on April 10, 2013.

He locked horns with Winson Neo and this encounter prolonged to 27 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 21-5 and 22-20.

Ajay laid the foundation of his victory by winning first set and then served notice of his supremacy by claiming he second match point on merit.

On the other hand, Winson Neo failed to show consistency in his performance and crashed out of this Grand Prix tournament.

The Indian shuttler showed his intention when he launched an intensive attack in the beginning of first set.

He did not give the opposing shuttler enough time to get settled and confounded him with a flurry of power packed strokes.

Ajay bagged many valuable points without any interruption and established an unassailable lead in no time.

He did not fritter away this psychological advantage and finished first half of the set with a mountainous figure of 11.

After the mid-game break, the Indian player employed all of his brilliance on court and swept the table with an impressive result of 21-5.

This first set win proved a real boost for his confidence as he managed to rise on his toes despite of having some challenges in the following game.

The second set started with couple of gruelling rallies as both contenders made every effort to gain an immediate advantage.

The game kept swinging between them all the way to final moments. Their splendid show of skills kept the audience intact.

Finally, this nerve-racking contest ended when Ajay registered a favourable score of 22-20. With this win, he setup his next clash with Marius Myhre in second round of New Zealand Badminton Open.
