Nawaz Sharif cleared for NA-120, Imran for NA-122
Friday, April 12th, 2013 4:38:22 by Tahir KhanThe Election Tribunal in Lahore on Friday accepted Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers for NA-120.
PPP member Sohail Malik had raised objections that Nawaz was a defaulter in the Asghar Khan case and objected to his nomination papers for NA-120.
Malik also said that Nawaz was not “sadiq” and “ameen” because he brokered a deal in order to escape Pakistan when his government was toppled in 1999.
Sharifs have denied all allegations as politically motivated.
Another appeal, filed by Afshan Ameerud Din, claimed that the returning officer for NA-120 had failed to comprehend paragraphs 14 and 15 from the Supreme Court’s judgment in the Asghar Khan case.
Despite the objections, the returning officer had cleared Nawaz to run in the elections. This decision was then appealed to the election tribunal after further objections.
Election Tribunal also rejected the objections over nomination papers of Hamza Shahbaz for NA-119 Lahore
Meanwhile Election Tribunal also rejected the objections over nomination papers of Imran Khan for NA- 122 Lahore.
Hearing in Pervez Musharraf’s appeal against rejection of his nomination papers for NA-139 Kasur was adjourned till April 16.
