Blast kills 9 at crowded Matani bazaar

A blast near a passenger coach Saturday killed at least nine persons in the town of Mattani, witnesses said.

The bomb exploded when the coach was passing at Matani bazaar, some 30 kilometers from Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Matani is located at the edge of the tribal town of Darra Adam Khel in Khyber agency.

A police officer Shaffiullah confirmed the incident but did not offer any more details.

Local TV channels also confirmed the blast and reported seven deaths. Reports said that eight more people were injured.

The injured were being shifted to hospital in Peshawar.

Witnesses said that the blast at Sher Ali Market damaged several shops and vehicles in the area.

No group claimed responsibility.
