ECP de-notifies 11 former parliamentarians

The Election Commission Sunday de-notified 11 former parliamentarians for possessing fake and invalid degrees.

 

The Commission directed to register cases in lower courts against these members. However‚ they can take part in polls until convicted.

 

These former parliamentarians will have to return their perks and privileges to the national exchequer.

 

These include 5 from Punjab Assembly‚ 2 Sindh Assembly‚ and one Balochistan Assembly and 3 senators.

 

Those who de-notified are Mir Israrullah Khan‚ Rehana Yahya Baloch‚ Seemal Kamran‚ Nadir Magsi‚ Tariq Magsi‚ Mir Mohabat Marree‚ Shumaila Rana‚ Shabina Khan‚ Samina Khawar Hayat‚ Bashir Ahmed Khan and Rana Ejaz Ahmed.

 

Meanwhile the Election Commission has changed the tribunal for hearing the appeals against Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif.

 

Appeals against them have been transferred to the new tribunal comprising of Justice Nasir Saeed Shaikh and Justice Shahid Wahid.

 

Four appeals have been filed against acceptance of nomination papers of Mian Nawaz Sharif from NA-120 Lahore.

 

Similarly 4 appeals have been filed against acceptance of nomination papers of Mian Shahbaz Sharif by returning officer in PP-161.

 

Earlier‚ the election tribunal of Lahore had declined to hear the appeals against both PML-N leaders on personal grounds.

 

The Commission has issued new guidelines for smooth and peaceful conduct of the general elections.

 

Under the new guidelines‚ candidates will not seek votes in the name of religion or sect.

Providing transport to voters to take them to polling stations will be a crime.

 

No voter can take ballot paper out of polling station.

 

Forced eviction of voters from polling stations will be considered a crime.

Candidates cannot establish polling camps within 4 hundred yards of polling stations.

 

Meanwhile‚ Election Commission has made foolproof security measures to prevent misuse of ballot papers during and before polling day.

 

The Commission has used exclusive green and white colours as well as paper of special grammage and quality for the ballot papers as security features. Ballot papers will also have serial numbers on the pattern of currency notes and prize bonds.
