The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday ordered action against Inspector General Police Bani Amin in the escape case of former president Pervez Msuharraf.

The IHC directed the Additional Secretary Interior to submit report till Thursday detailing disciplinary steps.

“The IGP has tried to mislead the court and he did not deserve to retain
his office further. What expectations you could attach with such a person” IHC Judge observed while hearing case of Musharraf’s escape from the court premises.
During the course of hearing, Additional Secretary Interior, Tariq Hayyat Khan appeared before the bench and apprised that ministry has initiated inquiry process against Inspector General Police (IGP) Islamabad Bani Amin and action would be taken in next 24 hours.
At this, Justice Siddiqui remarked that the court wanted to uphold the law and constitution and there is no favoritism for any one.

Additional Inspector General, (AIG) (Operations) ICT Police Sultan Azam Temuri appeared before the bench and presented the report on Musharraf’s escape as directed by the High Court.
According to the report, the DSP Secretariat Idrees Rathore and SHO Secretariat Qaisar Gilani were held responsible for the escape.
The report further stated that the interior minister has suspended the DSP while the SHO of Secretariat police station had been issued a show-cause notice.
However,SSP Operations Yaseen Farooq and SP City Captain Ilyas were declared innocent in the case, according to the report.
The inquiry report further stated that SSP Operation Yaseen Farooq had ordered to arrest Pervez Musharraf but DSP Secretariat did not deploy additional force to make the arrest possible.
After examining the report, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqi remarked that interior secretary was ordered to take action against the inspector general and that the DSP should not be held responsible for Musharraf’s escape.
Pervez Musharraf had managed to escape from the court in the presence of SSP Islamabad and spent a night at his Chak Shahzad farmhouse after the IHC rejected his bail and ordered his dispatch to jail on judicial remand.
In earlier hearing, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had directed the Secretary Ministry of interior to proceed against Inspector General Police (IGP) Islamabad on the issue of Musharraf’s escape from the court premises.

The court also ordered the Additional Inspector General (AIG) (Operations) ICT Police Sultan Azam Temuri to submit a report with regard to the steps taken in terms of orders passed on April 18 and 20.

The judge in its order had stated “I must observe that IG, ICT police, completely failed to perform his duty, and the excuse of his non-presence belied by the notice of meeting”.

“Such an approach brings a bad name to the country and dejection to ordinary citizens, as they feel that law enforcing agencies have dual standards, but the courts are making all-out efforts to demonstrate that everyone is equal before the law,” Justice Siddiqui said in his order sheet.
