There is no let-up in pre-elections attacks in the country as more blasts on Wednesday injured dozens of people in the country.

A bomb blast injured 13 people in Quetta a day after a suicide attack and three blasts in the city killed at least five people, including a security man, and injured nearly 50 other people.

The bomber blew up his explosive-laden vehicle near a check post of paramilitary soldiers, that was located near offices of political parties.

The banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ) claimed responsibility for the car bomb attack. A spokesman for the group, Abubakar Siddiq, called local reporters and said it had carried out the attack.

The Hazara Democratic Party’s chairman, Abdul Khaliq Hazara, escaped unhurt in the attack as he was passing through the area after addressing an election corner meeting when the blast took place.

On Wednesday a bomb, attached to a bicycle, exploded near a private hospital in Quetta’s Satellite Town. The miscreants carried out the blast through a remote control.

Meanwhile a bomb exploded near the house of a political leader in Peshawar, injuring four people, police said. The blast also caused damage to the house of a leader of Pakistan Peoples Party.

A woman and five other people  were injured in a cracker blast in Swat valley on Wednesday, police and witnesses said.

In another incident a motorcade of an independent candidate for election escaped a roadside bomb attack in Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday.

Life in the port city of Karachi disrupted on Wednesday on a strike call by powerful ethnic group against the late Tuesday bomb attack on election camp.

The Mutahida Qaumi Movement or MQM had called for the strike, which shut most parts of the city. Educational instiutuons were closed and traffic off the road.

The MQM chief Altaf Hussain had asked his party leaders to shut all office temporarily after the targeted attack.

The interior ministry had warned attacks during the election campaign by the Taliban and two banned groups Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and JUndullah.

Taliban had asked the people to stay away from the gatherings of the MQM, PPP and Awami National Party as they had supported the security forces against the militants.
