ECP takes notice of Imran Khan’s ‘abusive’ words for Nawaz Sharif
Saturday, April 27th, 2013 3:08:34 by Tahir KhanThe Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Saturday took notice of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan’s ‘abusive’ language for the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) leaders Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shehbaz Sharif.
Imran Khan is using word ‘jackal’ for Nawaz Sharif in speeches he is delivering in election campaign.
The PTI Chief started using the word after the PML-N leaders discredited his TV debate challenge.
Khan said on Friday that Sharif will be like a jackal if he does not accept his challenge for a TV debate.
“Oh Mian Sahib Jackals cannot become leaders. Mian Sahib show some courage,” Khan said while referring to Nawaz Sharif in his several addresses.
Khan also calls Shehbaz Sharif as ‘Showbaz’ Sharif in his election speeches.
The CEC will discuss the issue of “personal attack” Nawaz Sharif in its meeting on Tuesday, sources said.
The CEC has decided to ask TV channels to provide tapes of Imran Khan’s speeches.
Earlier the same day, Khan had addressed a rally in Bahawalpur, where he used objectionable words for Nawaz Sharif, the ECP sources said.
The entire speech will be put before the ECP Chief Fakhruddin Ebrahim in a meeting on Tuesday, where it will be evaluated whether the speech contained offensive remarks or not.
On Friday, ECP had issued a notification prohibiting political parties and their candidates from launching personal attacks against their opponents.
With election campaign in full swing and parties holding rallies, candidates were seen criticising each other and often resorting to name-calling and rhetoric that could be construed as slander.
PTI’s spokesperson, Dr Shrin Mazari, has defended Imran Khan’s speeches and said Khan is only criticizing the policies of the governments of the two major parties.
On the other hand, Sharifs are also critical at Imran Khan, saying that he is speaking the language of President Asif Ali Zardari.
They are saying that a same person is writing speeches for Imran Khan and President Zardari.
