Imran Khan condemns attack on political activists
Saturday, April 27th, 2013 9:35:44 by Tahir KhanChairman Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan Saturday strongly condemned the bomb attacks on political parties, workers, leaders and electoral offices.
In a statement, Khan extended his condolences to the workers and their families who have become victims of this unacceptable terror that has spread its tentacles across Pakistan, including the blast in Karachi on Friday in which 11 people died and more than 40 others were injured.
“I am truly saddened at the continuing loss of innocent lives and the growing fear that haunts our ordinary citizens, especially our children who have been deprived of their right to a safe secure childhood,” the PTI chief said.
He also expressed regrets that all political parties were unable to conduct a free electoral campaign because of targeted attacks. Khan reiterated that elections are not only the need of the hour but that there must be a level playing field for all parties so that the coming elections retain credibility.
The PTI chief called on the state security apparatus and the caretaker governments at the centre and in the provinces to ensure the safety and security of all Pakistanis and their leaders so that at this crucial time democracy is not derailed in the country.
Khan also informed that PTI has cancelled its May 1 rally in Karachi due to security concerns. The party does not wish to put lives of its innocent workers and their families in jeopardy, he said. The lives of Pakistanis are more precious to us than any political point scoring, he added.
