Rangers raid Uzair Jan Baloch’s home in Lyari
Saturday, April 27th, 2013 12:18:48 by Tahir KhanParamilitary troops Saturday raided the house of Peoples Amn Committee leader Uzair Jan Baloch in Lyari and arrested several people, officials said.
A spokesman for the Rangers said that the security forces also recovered arms, uniform of foreign military and flag of Baloch National Army.
TV footage showed the arrested men standing blind-folded and the arms displayed to reporters.
The spokesman said that some 300 Rangers took part in the operation and specific raids. The entry and exit points of the area were blocked during the operation, witnesses said.
TV channels had earlier reported firing as the Rangers launched targeted operation in the area.
Residents also staged protest demonstration and chanted slogans against the operation and the government.
The protesters burnt tyres during the demonstrations and no routine business activities were witnessed.
Officials also claimed the arrest of few suspected militants from different parts of the city.
The operation coincided with the mourning day by the Awami National Party to remember those killed in the late Friday bomb attack.
The rickshaw bomb blast near the vehicle of the ANP candidate Bashir Jan killed at least 11 people in Orangi area. Dozens others were injured, some of them critically.
Taliban claimed responsibility and the group’s spokesman, Ehsanullah Ehsan, said it was part of the policy to target ANP, MQM and PPP.
Hundreds people attended funeral for some of the slain men on Saturday.
A religious scholar and brother of late Mufti Shamzai and his son were among those killed in the attack.
JUI-F leader, Qari Usman, strongly condemned the attack and said Islam does not allow such attacks which kill innocent people. He also said the gov’t has failed to protect the people.
