2nd death anniversary of Osama bin Laden
Thursday, May 2nd, 2013 10:59:30 by Tahir KhanThe U.S. commandos killed Osama Bin Laden in Abbotabad exactly two years ago in a unilateral raid that had strained relationship between Pakistan and the United States.
The militants had carried out major revenge attacks on security installations, including one on the naval air base in Karachi, days after the incident.
Besides Osama, his son and two relatives were killed in the raid and one of Osama’s wives was injured.
The government had formed a five-member high level commission to investigate the raid and how Osama lived in the compound however its findings have not yet been made public.
The commission’s Chairman, justice Javed Iqbal, had earlier stated that he would suggest the government to make the report public, however, it has not yet happened. Like several other reports about important events, there is strong possibility that Osama’s inquiry commission report will never be shared with the public.
Americans had been after the al-Qaeda Chief for years and had invaded Afghanistan for his search. Many people question logic behind the stay of American forces even after Osama’s death.
They suspect the U.S. has other objectives to station troops in Afghanistan. Suspicion further increased after the US said it will leave thousands of troops in Afghanistan even after 2014 withdrawal of NATO troops.
The US has already signed a strategic partnership agreement with the United States and it is now trying for another security accord with Karzai regime to leave troops in the war-torn country.
Many believe that the US intends to eye on the natural resources in Afghanistan and the region and to monitor neighbouring countries of Afghniadtan.
Afghanistan and the US have some serious differences over the proposed security pact as Washington does not agree to accept Kabul’s proposal that the remaining American soldiers will follow Afghan laws and they could be prosecuted under the country’s laws.
Karzai also insists that the traditional ‘loya jirga’ or grand assembly will finalize the deal.
