Bombs blasts election meetings kill 11 in Hangu, Dir
Tuesday, May 7th, 2013 4:34:56 by Tahir KhanAt least 11 persons were killed in two bomb attacks near election meetings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday, police said.
At least 8 people were killed and nearly 43 injured in a bomb blast near the vehicle of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) candidate Mufti Saeed Janan in Hangu District on Tuesday.
It is the second attack on the JUI-F candidates in two days. Over 20 were killed and dozens others were injured in a bomb attack on JUI candidate Munir Orakzai in Kurram Agency on Monday.
Police said that Saeed Janan was going from Duaba to Thal leading a convoy to address an election rally when came under attack at main Duaba Bazaar. He remained unhurt in the blast.
The injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Hangu.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso have strongly condemned the bomb blast in Daoba town‚ Hangu district targeting a corner meeting of JUI-F candidate Mufti Syed Janan that resulted into the loss of precious lives and injuring many others.
Expressing heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved families the President said that such cowardly acts of militants cannot deter the people from participating in the elections and that it will further strengthen the resolve of the democratic forces and democracy loving people.
The President directed the concerned authorities to provide best medical treatment to the injured.
Meanwhile three people were killed and several others were injured in a bomb attack in Lower Dir on Tuesday, police said.
The blast occurred near a meeting of the PPP in Maidan area, police said.
Pakistani Taliban are blamed for such attacks.
Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan has strongly condemned the bomb blast in Hangu (Khyber Pukhtukhwa) targeting JUI-F public meeting in which several precious human lives were lost and injured many. Among others, JUI-F candidate Mufti Said Janan (PK-43) also got injured.
The Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to further tighten the security of candidates, public meetings and rallies and the masses. He directed to provide the best available medical assistance to those injured in the blast.
The Prime Minister prayed to Almighty Allah to bless those martyred in the blast and grant courage to the bereaved families to bear the loss with fortitude.
