Sherry Rehman resigns as Pakistan ambo to US
Tuesday, May 14th, 2013 9:37:58 by Tahir KhanPakistan’s ambassador to the United States, Sherry Rehman, has resigned after her Pakistan Peoples Party faced defeat in general elections, the embassy in Washington said Tuesday.
Sherry Rehman has sent her resignation to the interim Prime Minister, Mir Hazar Khan Khoso, the embassy spokesman, Nadeem Hutyana said.
Sherry, who had served as Information Minister in the outgoing government, has sent her resignation to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mir Hazar Khan Khoso, the embassy spokesman said.
She was appointed ambassador to Washington in November 2011 after then ambassador, Hussain Haqqani, quit over a controversial memo he had written to the U.S. administration for support against the Pakistani army after the death of Osama bin Laden.
Sherry Rehman was a political appointee like some other Pakistan envoys in few other capitals and are likely to resign in the coming days.
The ambassadorial post in Washington and some other important capitals are usually filled with non-diplomatic persons.
