Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Wednesday got simple majority of members-elect of the National Assembly to form government.

The results announced so far shows that the PML-N has secured 124 seats of 272 general seats and several independent members-elect of the National Assembly have joined the party, taking the number of seat to the level required for government formation.

A total of 137 seats are required to form government with simple majority in the National Assembly.

Seventy special seats will be distributed on the basis of winning seats.

A total of 28 independent candidates were elected on the May 11 elections and they will have to join any party within three days after the issuance of official notification of the successful candidates.

However, 13 independent members have so far joined the PML-N, raising the number of the party members to 137, the number required for government formation with simple majority.

The PML-N has also achieved clear majority of members to form government in Punjab, the country’s biggest province.

In Balochistan, the PML-N is also busy to win the support of independent members and some other parties to form a coalition government, the party provincial leader, Sanaullah Zehri said Wednesday.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the Tehrike-e-Insaf party and Jamaat-e-Islami reached an agreement to form a coalition government, the Jamaat spokesman, Israrullah advocate said.

In southern Sindh, the outgoing ruling Pakistan Peoples Party has won the simple majority and can form government.

The PPP is trying to convince its former ally, the Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to join the coalition.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has not yet announced official results of all National Assembly seats.

The Commission has ordered re-polling on several polling stations in the port city of Karachi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following rigging charges.

The PTI chief, Imran Khan, on Wednesday demanded recounting on 25 seats in Punjab and investigation into the fraud charges.
