“Two International Security Assistance Force service members and four ISAF contracted civilians died following an improvised explosive device attack in Kabul, Afghanistan today,” an ISAF statement said.
The bombing also injured over 33 more people including several foreigners, Afghan officials and hospital sources said.
Hizb-e-Islami led by former Prime Minister Gulbuddin Hekmatyar claimed responsibility for the attack and its spokesman Haroon Zarghoon said that Qari Qudratullah carried out the attack.
Gen Zaher, the head of the criminal investigation department of the Kabul police command, told the media that the suicide attack was carried out by a explosives-laden Corolla car on a convoy of foreign forces in the Shah Shahid area.
He confirmed that eight people were killed and over 50 others injured.
He added: “The bodies were badly burnt and most of them were not identifiable and it is possible that some foreigners were among them, however they were not identified yet.”
Witnesses say it was a powerful blast and surrounding buildings were damaged in it.
An eyewitness told reporters that he saw bodies of three foreigners and a number of Afghans and saw a large number of injured people while they were being taken to hospital in the area.
Haroon Zarghoon, said Hizb-e-Islami party had observed the area and the enemy for a long time and the suicide attack was planed one week ago and finally “we managed to attack the enemy”.
He said that the attack killed 10 foreigners and a number of others injured. He said that two armoured vehicles of the foreign forces were destroyed in the attack as well.
The house of Gol Pacha Majidi, a member of Afghan parliament, was also located in the area.
Hizb-e-Islami, led by former Prime Minister, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, is the second main resistance group after the Taliban.
The group last carried out a suicide attack on the US troops in Kabul in September 2012.
