Pakistan says dispute with Afghanistan over border post resolved

Clashes took place between the border forces of the two countries in recent weeks which killed an Afghan soldier and injured several Pakistani troops.
Afghan government accused Pakistan army of constructing a border post on Afghan side of the border in eastern part of the country. Pakistan insisted that it has renovated one of its old posts on its own side of the border.
“The issue of border post has been resolved,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said.
The spokesman told his weekly briefing that Pakistan has been emphasizing the need for effective border management to interdict undesirable cross-border activity.
Replying to another question he said Pakistan is in regular contact with Afghan authorities including military to military contact.
He confirmed that Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Sherry Rehman has resigned. He said there are 15 non-career ambassadors and the new Government would decide about their fate.
Replying to a question about the upcoming visit to Pakistan by US Secretary of State, John Kerry, the spokesman said that no details of the visit are available as yet.
Kerry while talking by phone to the Pakistan’s incoming prime minister, Nawaz Sharif this week said that he will visit Islamabad after the new government assumes office.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman said Pakistan and the United States enjoy mutually collaborative relationship. “Pakistan would like to have good relations with the United States based on mutual respect and mutual benefits”.
Replying to a question about reference to Pakistan’s nuclear programme in the white paper issued by Australian Defence Ministry, the spokesman said Pakistan has a robust nuclear command and control system and robust security arrangements. He said Pakistan’s civilian nuclear programme is under IAEA safeguards.
To a question he said Pakistan has received no new communication from India about dialogue process. Pakistan has already approached India for focused discussions on the issue of prisoners including 47 who have completed their sentence.
