Two blasts at mosques in Malakand kill 13
Friday, May 17th, 2013 4:14:15 by Tahir KhanAt least 12 people were killed and over 40 others were injured in two bombs blasts at two different mosques at a time of Friday prayers in Malakand, police said.
The blasts occurred at a remote Bazdara area near Batkhela.
Deputy Commissioner of Malakand Amjad Ali confirmed that 12 persons were killed and 20 others injured in the two blasts adding that the number of casualties was expected to increase.
Witnesses said that two blasts rocked the Bar Kalley and the main Jamia Masjid of the Bazdara region after Friday prayers.
“At least 12 bodies were brought to the Palai Hospital whereas only 30 of the 100 or so injured were treated at the Palai Hospital. Moreover, the remaining casualties were referred to Dargai and Mardan hospitals.”
Security forces imposed a curfew in the area which is 35 to 40 kilometres to the border of Buner District.
An emergency was also imposed in Dargai and Mardan Hospitals
No group claimed responsibility and it was unclear as to why worshipers were targeted.
Prime Minister Justice (R) Mir Hazar Khan has strongly condemned the bomb blasts in Malakand Agency resulting into the loss of precious human lives and injuries to others.
The Prime Minister directed the authorities to ensure best medical treatment for the injured.
The Prime Minister directed the law enforcement and intelligence agencies to be vigilant to stop recurrence of such incidents.
