Legharis join, NPP merged with PML-N
Friday, May 17th, 2013 12:44:09 by Tahir KhanTwo sons of former President Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari joined the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and the Sindh-based National Peoples Party (NPP) was merged into the PML-N on Friday.
Owais Legahri and Jamal Leghari, both elected as independent from Dera Ghazi Khan, met Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif in Raiwind, and joined the PML-N, further strengthening the party position in the parliament.
Three independent MPAs from DG Khan also joined the PML-N.
Legahris’ political rival, Zulfiqar Khusa was not present on the occasion.
NPP leader, Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi, also met Nawaz Sharif and announced merging of his party into PML-N.
Sharifs welcomed the decisions and hoped that the PML-N will become a strong force in the parliament, to serve the people.
Shehbaz Sharif condemned the caretaker Prime Minister for appointment on highest position and warned tough reaction. He claimed that PM Khoso is making the appointments on the advice of President Asif Ali Zardari.
Meanwhile Imran Khan’s request for recounting in NA 112 Lahore was rejected on Friday. He had filed an appeal with the Returning Officer. Khan was defeated on the seat by the PML-N Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
On the other hand PTI continued its ‘sit-in’ against the alleged poll rigging in NA-125 Lahore for the past six days where PML-N candidate Khwaja Saad Rafiq was declared winner against Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Hamid Khan.
Protesters are demanding the Election Commission of Pakistan to investigate this “PTI mandate theft” without delay. They added that the protest would continue until the ECP took effective action.
In another development, the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench on Friday revoked Election Commission’s decision regarding recounting of votes in NA-57 constituency of Attock.
PML-N’s winning candidate Sheikh Aftab had contacted Lahore High Court after ECP issued order of vote recount in NA-57 over application submitted by Pakistani Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) candidate Malik Amin Aslam.
During case proceeding, counsel for PML-N candidate Advocate Sheikh Ahsan Uddin told court that Election Commission issued directives without listening to his client’s version, which is illegal.
On this, the court ordered that recounting could not be held until ECP listens to both respondents in the case.
