Bomber kills senior Afghan official, 9 others
Monday, May 20th, 2013 12:23:58 by Tahir KhanA suicide bomber Monday killed a senior Afghan official and nine other people in Afghanistan’s northern Baghlan province, officials said.
Chairman of the Baghlan Provincial Council Mohammad Rasul Mohsini came under attack at the entrance gate of the Baghlan Provincial Council in Pol-e Khomri city, the provincial capital.
A local official in Baghlan Province said that the suicide attacker, who was wearing a military uniform, detonated the explosives he was carrying when the chairman of the Baghlan Provincial Council entered the building of the council.
As a result the chairman of the Baghlan Provincial Council was killed together with a number of his bodyguards and some civilians, and some others were also injured.
An eyewitness told the Afghan media that the attack was carried out on the vehicle of the head of provincial council.
He added that one person who was wearing police uniform exploded explosives tied on his body. The vehicle of the head of the provincial council was destroyed.
Eyewitnesses say that at least 10 people were killed and 30 others injured. However, victims of the incident have not been identified yet.
Nobody has claimed responsibility for this attack yet.
The authorities blame the Taliban for such attacks.
The attack come amid Taliban spring offensive code named “Khalid bin Waleed”.
