Chinese Premier promises support to Pakistan
Thursday, May 23rd, 2013 4:58:50 by Tahir KhanChinese Prime Minister‚ Li Keqiang on Thursday reiterated his government’s stance to support Pakistan in all sectors and extend further cooperation‚ especially in strategic‚ energy‚ science & technology and agriculture domains.
In his address to special session of the Senate in Islamabad‚ the visiting Premier said that Pakistan’s support to China was vital for the development of his country.
“China will give you every support and assistance and by helping you‚ we have to help ourselves‚” he said.
He said the cooperation and assistance in the strategic partnership would be further enhanced for global peace and stability.
“The friendship which is based upon share values of life is long lasting‚” and the two nations have been enjoying such an exemplary friendship‚ he added.
The Chinese Premier stressed that the both nations should stand shoulder to shoulder as friends and brothers with `pragmatic cooperation.’
Terming the friendship as outcome of centuries old historical people-to-people contacts‚ he said that it was nurtured by the nations and fostered by the forefathers through generations to generations.
“To be friends forever is the cherished desire of both nations‚” he said‚ adding that all weathers friendship between the two countries `is precious than the gold.’
Enumerating priorities to take both the countries forward on way of development and progress and for fostering bilateral time tested friendly ties‚ Premier Li said that they would have to speed up the development and utilization of Karakorum Highway for trade activities.
He said to launch major social and financial projects‚ and cooperation in energy and agriculture sectors would be the other steps for cooperation.
He also underlined the enhancement of people to people contacts‚ including persons from media‚ trade‚ education and sports to further bolster the friendly ties.
The visiting dignitary also lauded learning of Chinese language by Pakistani people and said that they would require assistance of Pakistani people in learning the Urdu language.
Sharing his rejoice in addressing the Upper House of Parliament‚ Chinese Premier said that it was a great pleasure to address Pakistan’s parliament and conveyed his warmly and brotherly greetings to people of Pakistan.
He pledged to work for mutual benefits and fostering of relations between the brotherly nations.
Recollecting his memories of 27 years back when he first visited Pakistan‚ Premier Li said that through his interaction with vast strata of Pakistani society‚ he has learnt one thing as cherished by both the nations and as explained by the Chairman Senate; “that is Long Live Pakistan-China friendship.”
He said the warm feelings he felt during his visit to Pakistan due to the affections shown by the Pakistani nation have been deeply rooted in his heart and he had never forgotten it.
Chinese Prime Minister said that Pakistan was great country with rich history and heritage including Moenjodaro‚ Gandhara and Badshahi Mosque in Lahore.
He also paid rich tributes to Pakistani nation for its hard working capabilities and said that with their devotion and hardwork they created one miracle after another.
Referring to Pakistan geo-political significance‚ the visiting dignitary said that it was hectically involved in maintaining regional stability and global peace and its contributions were commended by the world.
Pakistan was committed to peace in the region and the world and it was playing important role for stability of the South Asia‚ he added.
Premier Li also highlighted the centuries old contacts between both the nations and said these trade relations were established through the famous Silk Route.
Senator Aitzaz Ahsan expressed gratitude to the Chinese PM for addressing the Senate and hoped his visit to Pakistan will give new impetus to the relations between the two countries. He termed the visit of the Chinese PM as very important on the occasion of transition of power to the new democratic government.
In his vote of thanks‚ Senator Raja Zafarul Haq said the Pakistani nation‚ parliament and the government highly regarded the the Pakistan-China friendship and said efforts must be made to safeguard it through increased cooperation on all levels.
He said Chinese Premier’s visit would go a longway towards strengthening inter-parliamentary linkages and exploring new avenues of partnership for the betterment of the two countries.
