Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) seeks PPP support for Nawaz Sharif, the party candidate for the position of the Prime Minister, a senior party leader said Tuesday.

Senator Ishaq Dar has said the PML-N is not working for evolving a consensus on the election of leader of the house in the National Assembly but is in contact with PPP to withdraw its candidate.

Talking to media in Islamabad‚ he said it will be a positive sign if Mian Nawaz Sharif is elected as a consensus Prime Minister‚ but it is not so far possible as PTI has taken a categorical stance for fielding Javed Hashmi as its candidate for the slot.

He said it is beauty of democracy that each party has the right to field its candidate for the office of Prime Minister.

However‚ he said various political parties have assured their support to PML-N candidate and talks are underway with PPPP to support Mian Nawaz Sharif in the election.

Ishaq Dar said PML-N leadership is committed to continue implementing Charter of Democracy for strengthening state institutions and promoting democracy.

He said Mian Nawaz Sharif has also invited all political parties to get united on the national plan of action for overcoming challenges to the country which are unique in the nature.

He said no single party is in a position to single handedly deal with the challenges and all political forces will have to come on a platform to make joint efforts for this purpose.

The PPP has already nominated its President Amin Fahim to contest the PM elections. However, some PPP leaders had earlier indicated that they can withdraw the party candidates if the PML-N approaches formally.

The party withdrew its candidates for the post of the speaker and deputy speaker National Assembly on Monday at the PML-N request. However, the party’s lawmakers did not take part in elections.
